Hair Transplantation with DHI Hair Transplantation Technique and Implanter Pen Technique
Even though the DHI technique is accepted by some studies as new technique, some sources do not recognize it as scientific technique. Beyond these discussions, it is claimed that this technique is merely a marketing tactic since this application is the FUE-technique carried out with an implanter. The DHI technique is also known as unshaven hair transplantation.
‘Bu at this point, the main conclusion from the discussions on the two methods is that DHI technique is considered as a separate hair transplantation method because it involves different stages of transplantation than the FUE method.”
We will try to explain objectively how hair transplantation is carried out with the DHI-technique.
First, the DHI technique, unlike the FUE technique, can be described as a method in which two stages take place at the same time. The implantation of the hair follicles from the donor area to the area transplantation area is carried out without opening any canals. The implanter/CHOI needle has a very thin, cylindrical and very sharp tip. This CHOI needle with cylindrical tip has the shape of a canal and the hair can be inserted into the needle, along the canal. The fact that the DHI technique is also known as CHOI-method is due to the characteristics of this needle.
ZERO-Pain Method in Hair Transplantation!
With the sedation to be applied under the supervision of our anesthesiologist, you will no longer feel anything during the hair transplantation. This way you will experience a more comfortable and painless hair transplantation. Hair transplantation processes are already not very painful procedures but for patients with fear of needles this method is much more comfortable. The pain, which is already felt to a minimum, will be almost completely reduced to zero by this method.
What is sedation?
Sedation is a kind of sleep condition that can be individually adjusted with sedative medication and the effect can be scaled accordingly. The depth of the sedation is controlled while all reflexes are preserved.
Do I have to undergo sedation?
Sedation is safe enough to be used even in young children and, as we said before, it makes the hair transplantation process almost painless. But for patients that do not want a sedation, we still carry out hair transplantation without the sedation process. The choice at this point is completely yours.
Application of the DHI method
In a hair transplantation operation performed with Choi implanter pen, the hair follicles collected are placed one by one into the pen.
This placement must be done very carefully. After the assistants placed the hair follicles into the pen, the expert doctor continues with the transplantation.
At this point, the doctor transplants the hair follicles at the most appropriate angle of 40-45 degrees. Another important point besides the angle is the right direction. Thus the hair must be inserted according to the hair direction of the patient.
The right angle and direction of the hair roots that are placed in the Choi needle is determined and then transplanted according to the needle characteristics.
The operation is carried out with 2 to 6 Choi pens and approximately 15-16 Choi needles. The tips of these pens can have different sizes. The factor determining this is the thickness and structure of the hair follicle.
Naturally, the Choi hair transplantation method has some advantages and disadvantages compared to the FUE method.
First of all, let’s talk about the advantages mentioned by the experts:
It minimizes the time, the hair follicles spend outside the tissue to a minimum and ensures a more healthy transplantation.
The survival rate of hair follicles is higher.
As the incision area will be smaller, it minimizes the risk of bleeding as much as possible.
Quicker healing can occur after a hair transplantation surgery, thus the patient will be able to resume daily activities faster.
Unshaven hair transplantation is easier to carry out with this method.
The disadvantages compared to the FUE method are the following:
In order to use this technique well and specialize, both the physician and the team must go through a very long training period.
Compared to other hair transplantation methods, it can be said that it is generally a more costly method.
The doctor carrying out the transplantation must be very careful and be in good shape.
Planting hair in a haired area means that the transplantation area is very narrow and if the doctor does not have enough experience, the tips of the Choi needle can damage the other hair follicles while working in this narrow space.
DHI Hair Transplantation Stages
After mentioning the prominent features of this technique, we want to point out something with a question.
Is everybody suited to undergo DHI/Choi Hair Transplantation?
This method was first introduced at Kyungpook National University in Korea. Doctors specialized in the field of hair transplantation have done research to better understand this technique and they came to the conclusion that not everybody is suited to undergo a procedure with the Cho pen and that this method is very difficult to apply.
As an example they demonstrated that especially fine stranded and curved hair roots are easily damaged while placing them into the implanter tip and during transplantation. In subsequent studies they designed a new implanter pen that is suited for not only straight and thick hair, which is unique to Asians, but also more general hair types. The implant pens used today have a wide variety of thicknesses from 0.64 mm to 1.0 mm.
Today, in the light of scientific and technological developments, hair transplantation can now be done more safely with Choi tips. In specialized clinics, effective, predictable and most importantly, natural looking results can be achieved in hair transplantation with Choi tips.
